Self-Care Sunday: My Self-Care ToolKit

Welcome to the first installment of Self Care Sunday’s! I am excited to share this post with you guys! I have been doing what they are deeming to be “self-care Sunday” for years, it just never had a name, lol! Sunday’s are considered my time and my family knows it every man, women and child for themselves, lol.  My routine consist of several steps and different routines, we will get into that as time moves on, but today I wanted to show you what’s in my Self-Care toolkit as I call it.

For me, it depends on the time of day (morning versus evening) and what kind of mood I’m in. If I’m feeling really good the things I pull out of my self-care toolkit are going to vary. It will be different if I’m feeling sad, frustrated or just plain tired. But there a few things I use every single time I practice self-care.

Aromatherapy

No matter my mood I always use aromatherapy during Self-Care Sunday. Aromatherapy is the practice of using natural oils from flowers, steams, leaves, etc.  to create a feeling of physical well-being. I mostly like clean scents during the summer and more fall inspired scents during the fall/winter months. With diffuser, essential oils, incentive and candles it can be hard to find  what works for you. It will take a little researching but you will find it. The most popular place for candles and scents is Bath & Body Works , but you can easily drop 100’s of dollars on candles in there. I have found other stores that have great candles as well. So, when I don’t feel like splurging on candles I shop at TJ Maxx, Marshalls and even Big Lots. 

Comfy Clothes

Some people might not realize how this could relate to self-care, but wearing clothes that feel good on the body and that also make you feel good are so important! Now everyone will have different opinions on what makes them feel comfy.  That is completely okay, because self-care is all about you! For me I love to lounge around in my pajamas! Depending on the season what kind will change for me, but some people wear the same kind all year round. In spring and summer I love silk or polyester matching sets, I love the way it glides along my skin!  During the winter I am a little more cold blooded so I love a good pair of flannels or a long night shirt and knee high socks!

Flavors

Now who doesn’t love to indulge in great flavors during self-care. I love tea! If you have been following me for a while, then you know I am an avid tea drinker. I can drink tea all day, lol.  Caffeine free teas are mostly what I drink as this is better for me! When I need something a little stronger every now and then I will partake in a glass of wine! Of course you can drink whatever is relaxing for you. Now flavors don’t just include drinks, I also love to grab a snack along with my tea or wine. Fruits and raw veggies are what I love the most! Unfortunately, I can’t indulge in them too much, due to some health restrictions, but I love them nonetheless.

Reflecting/Reading

I love to spend a few minutes after I light my candle and reflect on things that are going on in my life at that particular moment. Good or bad I like to think and meditate or pray about things that are out of my control. This has helped me to learn to stop worrying about things I can’t control and let go and stress less. After this I usually will read my current book of the week or month. I am the true definition of a bookworm! Every since I was little, I’ve loved to read! It is my way of leaving everything behind and escaping into someone else’s world.

Music

Last, but certainly not least is music! If you haven’t read my post on  Power Of Music , its a must read after this. Music for me is everything, I can’t go a day without listening to music! It is my way of expressing  my mood at that moment. I have often found that it can help to change my mood as well, if I am feeling down, I can throw on some up beat music and dance and sing my blues away! I can’t really sing, but hey who’s listening, lol! A great song that can express how I feel about music is “Music” by Brandy off her Two-Eleven Album. My favorite artist to listen during this time is Kenny G!! Also introduced to me as a child and I have loved his music every since.

  3. This is a lovely little collection! As a music teacher I truly believe music is so powerful and gets me through so much! Never tried aromatherapy but reading how you speak about it, I may actually try this now!

  4. I loved this! I have an impromptu self-care habit that I try to do as much as possible especially when I get up & go to sleep. I always try to do a nice warm shower and if I’m feeling fancy, I have this rub that has all these different scents to open you up. Most importantly, I read my devotions and 20 pages or more of book, I’m an incense girl myself and I got rid of the tv in my room and opted for mainly neutral colors AND a playlist with all my favorite soothing jams
