Wild Wednesday’s: Weekend in Dahlonega, Georgia

Welcome back for Wild Wednesday! This week is a continuation of last week post about the Dahlonega Spa Resort , I talked about my experience at the resort along with the services they provide. While this weekend was a opportunity to recharge, I did get a change to get out and explore. Although Dahlonega is a small city, there was a lot to do! Whenever I visit a  new city, I love to get out and explore and sightsee and Dahlonega was no different! So keep reading to find out how my weekend of exploring went!

So while I did have a amazing time at the Dahlonega Spa Resort , I did want to get out an do some sightseeing, I arrived in the afternoon on a Friday, so after checking in and enjoying a great massage, it was time to find something to eat!

Restaurants

Now there are several restaurant and fast food places in Dahlonega, but we only ate at one. Wait, let me explain why, lol!  After reading up and checking menus we decide to eat at Don Pollo’s. Don Pollo specializes in Southern & Mexican Cuisine, I know the two just don’t seem to mix and can the Chef even cook both well? These were the questions I was asking as well and decided to give it a try, and let me tell you I was soooooo not disappointed!! I can’t really do Mexican food due to my health restrictions, but I could order Southern Cuisine, with some limitations. I chose the Cajuan Tilapia with Turnip greens and Cucumber Salad! Sounds amazing right and it was! Sorry for the bad lighting, but I was busy trying to eat, Sorry, not Sorry, Ha!

Because dinner completely surprised us we went back for breakfast the next morning! This time I had the Pancakes, with sausage links and eggs whites, it was so good and they shaped my pancakes to look like Mickey Mouse! There are other great places to eat as well, Click HERE to check them out!

Wine Tasting

Who doesn’t love a good wine tasting while on a weekend getaway. There are several wine vineyards in Dahlonega, although we didn’t visit any here is a Winery list! We did however opt-in to participate in the Wine Walk at Downtown Dahlonega! So how it works is you purchase a wine glass at the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Visitors Center for $5 and get two wine tastings for $2.75 at each participating downtown tasting room. There are six tasting rooms, but we only visited two this trip! Our first stop was Naturally Georgia! The wines were amazing!

Next we stopped at the Dahlonega Tasting Room, such a cute shop, more southern then the Naturally Georgia tasting room.

Tubing on the Chestatee River

Now this was surely an adventure. It was both exhilarating and scary, lol! It was my first time tubing and at first I was a little scared but as I float down the river and got use to the feeling it was great! The tubing trip will take 30 to 45 minutes, and take a easy nature trail, just 10-minute hike back to the beginning. There are two companies that over this tubing experience, Appalachian Outfitters River Outpost and Chestatee River Adventures, the prices are reasonable, but on a hot day you may have to wait for awhile. But a great tip is to bring you own tube or by one from Walmart (it was $7.00) up the street, that’s what we did because we did not want to wait 30-40 minutes to go tubing.

Shopping

Last but not least is shopping. It is alway fun to go shopping on a getaway it makes it all worth while. I love shopping in small cities like this because they have the best Antique Shops. I didn’t buy much, but I did score some great records!.

I know this post was extra long, but I hope you enjoyed it. If you ever visit Dahlonega, Georgia I promise you won’t be disappointed, it is truly a diamond in the rough!

  3. I have seen wine walks here but never took part. I’m glad you got out to visit the area that was a nice addition to your visit. I have been tubing once and I didn’t enjoy it. It was just my daughter and myself for 6 miles in the middle of nowhere. I was so scared and anxious the whole way.
